Shannon was a writer for a local publishing company, and she had managed to get Shelley a job as a file clerk. Shelley had been holding her own ever since and she and Shannon had become the best of friends. Actually, they probably were the best friend that either of them had ever had. Shannon was an only child and her parents kept her pretty sheltered most of her life. She did not have time for any real friends because her Mother never let her go anywhere and never let any other children come over to play. The only chance she had for making friends was at school, that is where she had met her first love, or, could say, her first disaster.
When Shannon was seventeen, she had fallen head over heels with what had to be the biggest, roughest, hoodlum there was. His name was Tony Perry, and he fascinated Shannon. Everything he stood for went against every moral she had been taught growing up. He introduced her to a side of life she never knew existed. She got drunk for the first time, she went to wild parties, she lied to her parents, and would sneak out to meet him any time he wanted her too. She saw him fight, steal and get high. In her eyes he was the most perfect, dangerous person in the world and she loved him with all of her naive heart. After several heart breaks, being cheated on and stolen from, Shannon finally let reality hit her in the face and she let him go. She chalked the entire episode up as a learning experience and swore she would never be that stupid again. She had grown up a lot in those few years she spent with Tony. At twenty-five, she knew more and had been through more than most people had in a lifetime. Just when she vowed she would never trust another living soul, especially male, Todd waltzed into her life. In the three years they had been together it had taken him 2 1/2 of those to win her trust. Todd was wonderful. He gave her back her dreams, he gave her back her dignity and made her self esteem soar. If it had not of been for Todd, her bad experience with Tony might have damaged her mentally and emotionally for the rest of her life.
The hot steamy water from the shower washed over her body, washing all of her cares away. She suddenly got lost in thought over the past few years and all of the changes she had made. She reached for the shampoo and washed her long, chestnut hair. Shannon was only five foot three, but at least four feet of that were legs. She often wondered how she got such long legs and only ended up five-three? She was petite, her skin a shade darker than pale which gave notice to her big blue/green eyes. She had long eye-lashes that people often assumed as fake, and her blue eyes sparkled with specs of gold, green, violet and gray. Depending on what she was wearing, her eyes had a shade of their own. She had a cute, small nose and underneath it sat a naturally pink shaded pair of full lips. She rarely had to wear lipstick, or much make up at all for that matter, just a little eye liner and mascara to outline her gorgeous eyes. Shannon thought Shelley was the gorgeous one, and Shelley thought the same of Shannon. Two different girls, one with natural beauty, and one with the gift of creating beauty, both gorgeous in their own way.
Feeling refreshed, she stepped out of the shower and reached for a towel, only to find that there wasn’t one. ……as she strained to open her eyes she managed to see Todd, standing in front of her, starring, in nothing but a pair of jogging shorts….
