One Cold Night Part II

Eric starred at the bundle for what semed like an eternity; recalling all of the heartache he had suffered, and all of the reasons why this woman should not live. there was one loose strand of that blonde hair Eric hated, hanging from one end of the bundle. Blood and dirt covered most of the blanket. Eric could not even recall how he had gotten the body down here, not without being noticed. he grabbed his head, as tht familiar sharp pain jabbed its way through his brain and down the back of his neck. Vauge images of the previous night began scrambling around in his head.

Almost breathless he screamed “NO”! as he fell to his knees. He shook and sobbed uncontrollably until finally he got his thoughts together. He raised his head and glanced straight ahead at the river that was about 15 yards away. It was getting close to daylight. Knowing he had to make a move soon, he began looking for rocks. After filling the blanket with rocks and bricks, he pulled away the blanket to expose Angelica’s face. Dirt and blood covered most of it except for the eyes. The eyes were still opened as Eric jumped and his heart began to race. Finding a little pleasure in the horrified look on the dirty face, Eric whispered in a husky voice; “you should have left well enough alone Ange, but you wouldn’t listen”.

Chuckling aloud Eric recovered the body and began dragging the bundle through the slick mud towards the river. At the waters edge, Eric slid the body in head first. He stood and watched as the swift currents began to swallow the body up. “Goodbye Angelica”, Eric whispered flatly. There was no sorrow, regret, or compassion in his voice, just cold, bitter, hatred.
